Letter From Our President
Hi! It is such a privilege to be serving as the Gamma Beta Chapter President for this term. This position has been incredibly rewarding and has pushed me in ways I never expected.
After being welcomed into this chapter two years ago by an organization built on strong, inspirational women, I knew from the start that I wanted to lead. I began my journey serving as Red Dress Gala Chair and later as Director of Internal Philanthropy, where I quickly recognized just how self-sufficient our chapter truly is. There wasn’t someone else stepping in to take over, it was us. We were college students balancing classes, jobs, internships, and leadership roles, while still choosing to give our time and energy to a greater cause.
That same sisterhood was present when I stepped into this role after living across the world for four months, feeling overwhelmed and intimidated. This chapter quickly turned that uncertainty into confidence because I realized I was never doing it alone. In moments when I felt unsure, there were women beside me offering guidance and steady support. That is why it means so much to me to serve as President, surrounded by the same heart and dedication that shaped my experience from the very beginning. When women show up for women, incredible things happen. That is how we continue building a chapter of strong female leaders, women who uplift one another while strengthening the community around us. These women inspire me every day to embody the values of Alpha Phi, and each of us brings something unique that contributes to our chapter’s success.
Through the many leadership and professional development opportunities we offer, we help shape each woman into a more confident and well-rounded version of herself. As we continue to grow as a chapter, my hope is that every member feels the same sense of belonging and empowerment that shaped my own experience. Alpha Phi has always been about building confident women who support one another and carry the values of leadership, friendship, and service far beyond UCSB and into every stage of life. I am endlessly grateful to lead this chapter, and I am so proud of what we continue to build together every day.
AOE,
Alana Nielsen
